HelenO’Grady Speech & Drama

Fun and inspiring drama classes by HelenO’Grady International in progress at Schoolkutti. Lovely to see the children growing in confidence, building new friendships and having a great time. Skills that are learned studying drama with Helen O’Grady Drama Academy are invaluable in later life.

Story Time (The Magic Block)A lovely start to our Saturday!

Today we discovered a beautiful way of explaining magnets to children.
We chose a lovely book from Pratham books – “The Magic Block” written by Lavina Mahbubani. It tells us the story of Rinky who finds a magic block in her bhaiya’s drawer. Kids were eager to know about the magic block and were amazed to see how it pulls only certain items towards it. They were curious to know how it works, and we had fun discussing the mechanism of magnets. Kids also enjoyed making paper boxes and coloring them during the craft session that followed.

The power of storytelling creates a great platform for fostering an interest in STEM learning, while creating a reading culture where learning is not confined to classrooms and textbooks.

Wishing you a week full of love,
Team Schoolkutti

Scrabble Time

Scrabble is a great mind game for kids to build their vocabulary skills. Schoolkutti.com conducted a Scrabble Workshop last week for 9 to 12 year olds. Our budding word-builders had great fun looking up new words, challenging their peers and playing around with words and letters. We had lots of positive feedback from students who attended our last batch.

Our next batch will start in June. Thank you for your support.

3. Scrabble Camp

It’s easy to see why Scrabble is not only a fun game, but also a fantastic educational tool. Scrabble makes learning fun. Obviously, it builds strong vocabulary and spelling, but it also requires math (players need to see what plays are worth what) and strategy (players need to see what plays are worth the most and what plays might keep their opponents from scoring), even spatial relations and probability. Scrabble workshop for children from March 30 to April 3 at Schoolkutti.com Children’s Library Vellayambalam. Time: 4 PM. Contact 0471-4015293 or 9847320281 to register.

Last class we had a ‘Just a minute’ session on random topics to train students to speak spontaneously. This will continue in the upcoming sessions. This is to improve their impromptu speaking skills. Then we had debate sessions on the topics assigned to the teams. SDGs were introduced to them as these could be used in speeches and debates. The trainer told them in which all ways the topics could be presented through the usage of certain concepts, current affairs and anecdotes. She also introduced the way they could use their existing knowledge and the information they get from different sources to prepare better speeches. Finally, the participants were given a topic for elocution for next class along with the format in which it needs to be presented.

Kite fun at the library

When we don the storyteller hat, we turn children into readers and transform the library into a community space. Oh how we enjoyed the delightful story ‘Farmer Falgu Goes Kite Flying’ by Chitra Soundar and Kanika Nair, from Karadi Tales. Stunning illustrations, interesting sounds and of course a catchy story. And how can the storytime end without the kite making activity? Our little champs made some charming kites and colored them too.

Independence Day 2014 Drawing and Colouring Competition

Submitted by Green Butterfly Group

Green Butterfly Edu was found in the summer of 2012, with the setting up of a Children’s Art & Craft Workshop in Trivandrum. The idea was to create a fun place with activities that kept children coming back for more and so, spread the love for creativity. Children come for various reasons – the cheerful ambience, friendly teachers, fun activities on weekends, team work and excursions including Adventure, Science, Cooking, Nature, Theatre and more…

Green Butterfly’s programs help in development of creativity among children right from their tender age. Art and Craft programs, colouring/drawing/painting programs provide children the opportunity to be creative and to gain self confidence.

Green Butterfly Edu has successfully conducted summer camps, craft programs, contests in schools in Thiruvananthapuram. Green Butterfly has published few Art n Crafts books for kids in KG and Primary levels.

We are organizing a Drawing & Colouring during Independence Day to commemorate the 67th Independence Day and to create awareness about history behind Independence and the need to aim at future development of India. The first event is planned for Independence Day on 15th August at the Museum Ground, Thiruvananthapuram.

These competitions are evaluated by Senior Teachers & Artists and prizes are announced. Each and every child is also given a Certificate as a token of participation. A nominal registration fee is charged per kid for participating in these competition.
